5 out of 5 stars My second Citizen   August 23, 2010
Lou L. (Long Island, N.Y.)
I've owned this watch since 2003, bought at retail. I flipped when I saw it, because it's my favorite style-the traditional scuba style with the flat face and arrow hands in a true midsize. Back then, I was wary of wearing a full sized diver because I'm a guy with pretty small wrists. What's unique about this watch is the fat chrome type edging around the markers and hands. There's also a crome edge(actually stainless steel) around the black bezel. Definitely a contemporary flair that stands out.(I knew a guy from work who had almost the same watch and I always admired it.He had worn the heck out of it for 8 years-it was also a Citizen.) Super solid crystal. High polish stainless steel case. Hands and markers glow a beautiful turquoise. However, they don't seem nearly as bright as those on my Citizen BN0000-04H. They may have faded after years of sun exposure, or may just not be the same type of lume. Nonetheless, when I come in from outside, they still glow pretty well. (If I fall asleep with it on, there's no problem reading the time if I wake up hours later in a dark room.) The crown is small, but I've never had a problem changing the time, date, or screwing it down.Battery change is a reality for this quartz model, although the store I bought it at gives me free lifetime replacement. Which reminds me-so far the battery has died once. I noticed the second hand jumping at two second intervals beforehand which is the low battery warning so I can tell you that feature really works. I own four Citizens and they're all Promasters. I can't comment on Citizen's dressier styles, but these Promasters are built like tanks. I clean them by lathering then up with soap and water in the sink. Easy! If this style is for you, buy without reservation.

3 out of 5 stars you have to watch amazon closely on this one   May 22, 2010

i too saw the eco drive on the box in the pictures on amazon. the watch i got has no eco drive. i was going to send it back but i found out that the eco drive can be problematic. amazon needs to get their heads out of their butts and pay attention to what they are advertising. in the end though i would rather buy a battery every 5 years than hunt for a capacitor.

5 out of 5 stars Great, for smaller wrists   February 20, 2010

**Please note, the band width is 20mm, NOT 22mm as Amazon has listed**

Yes this watch is small. At least smaller than your typical men's diver.
Beware also that it is quartz, so no automatic movement here. This is actually the reason why I bought it, along with its size (7" wrist).

So far so good with this watch. It looks a lot better in person than in the photos. The case is polished stainless steel. The bezel has a good, tight, solid movement. Not clanky like one of my seikos. The second hand does not perfectly align with the markers, but I never really cared about that. Lume is ok, but nothing that will blow you away.

All in all, this watch is a great value. It can be found cheaper elsewhere, so shop around. But if you want the full warranty, Amazon is probably your best bet.

3 out of 5 stars Maybe I am spoiled by my seikos   December 25, 2009

I bought this watch for my girlfriend. She loves my seiko but she wanted something a bit smaller for her wrist. As a result I bought this watch after some research and based on the reviews here at Amazon.

When I received the watch I immediately took it out and it immediately struck me that the quality of this watch was only mediocre because:

* The bezel action is very coarse. It does not feel like quality instrument, more like a toy.
* The lume on the dial and the hands is only mediocre compared to my seiko which is really nice.
* The screw in crown is very hard to manipulate, I don't see my girlfriend trying to open it and tighten it back down.
* The strap is not 22mm cotrary to what is listed by Amazon. If you want to get an aftermarket strap you'll need to get a 20 mm strap.
* The finish on the watch case is a not brushed steel. It is chrome like which in my opinion makes it look less sophisticated.

Also to note I bought this watch on eBay for $90 (with box and all paperwork). I'm glad I didn't pay the $125 that Amazon is charging.

Update - This watch has grown on me. The more I see it the more I like it. The points above are still valid however.

3 out of 5 stars Thought I was buying Eco-Drive   December 24, 2009

Although this is a handsome little watch I did end up returning it because it does not have the Eco-Drive technology and it has a few other flaws. The box on the pictures of the watch shows an Eco-Drive box which is not the one the watch came in. Because of that being on there and also the description of the Eco-Drive technology on the item page I bought this watch thinking it was equipped with Eco-Drive. I also did not like the crown on the watch at all it is way too small and hard to screw back down because it's so tiny. The luminosity of the hands is decent but nothing compared with my Luminox watch. Luminosity fades quickly when it's dark, but it is a cool blue color. The face of the watch looks pretty nice and the second hand stopped precisely on each tick mark which is nice. Overall I give it 3 stars because it should be equipped with Eco-Drive and the crown is insanely small. I would personally recommend a Luminox or Seiko dive watch over this one. However, if you don't care that much about glow or Eco-Drive and you can deal with the tiny crown this is not a bad watch for the price.

Pros
-Decent looks
-Day/Date display
-Quartz accuracy
-Second hand stops right on each mark

Cons
-Tiny crown very hard to screw in
-Luminosity is not as good as Seiko and nothing compared to Luminox
-Not Eco-Drive
